I was never sympathetic to the short-lived postmodern movement – and this building in particular. However it is an important part of our heritage and should be respected as such.

Norman Foster, regarding the transformation by Snøhetta of Philip Johnson’s AT&T Tower in New York, Instagram, November 2 2017

I’ve met him on several occasions. Did we have anything in common? No, nothing. This is a man who lives in a gilded palace. When I was born, I didn’t even have a roof over my head.

Daniel Libeskind, about Donald Trump, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, October 28 2017

I reject the terms specialised architect, stone architecture, since they eliminate any scope for experimentation. I have used stone in all the ways it is possible to use it… as of now I can say that that’s enough.

Smiljan Radic, La Tercera, November 3 2017

You won’t just walk in there like you do in a Burger King!

Jacques Herzog, (slightly angrily) regarding the Museum of the 20th century in Berlin at a conference at the Berliner Akademie der Künste, November 15 2017

It needs years not only of building, but also of designing, checking, discussing, even of facing opponents… who force us to think.

Renzo Piano, France Culture, November 10 2017

In Europe, it’s the public sector that produces the best housing. It’s much better than what’s produced by the private sector. It also has to be said that social housing isn’t built for the poor, but to give architecture to those who can’t get access to it.

Enrique (Henri) Ciriani, El Commercio, November 12 2017
