The House, Revolutions of a Model
How can people still dare to build detached houses? If the trend, in France, is to criticise this typology, it’s because architects are often not involved in its conception. In France, despitedespite the ‘zero net artificialisation’ objective which, since 2021, which has considerably restricted house building since 2021, and the rise in property prices and mortgage rates, new houses are still being built. Architects have not stopped designing detached houses.
On the contrary, they are working hard to reinvent this typology – which, when handled by architects, is the best reflection of the evolution of a territory and a culture. How do they go about ensuring that this model, both reviled and dreamt of, is as sustainable as possible?
