Setting sail for Bonifacio

Completed just before the summer by the local Buzzo Spinelli Architecture office, a Fishing Centre now occupies the north quay of the port of Bonifacio in southern Corsica. Dedicated to fishermen, the 1,200 sq metre building has lock-up garages and associated storage areas on the ground floor and meeting rooms upstairs; all in a building running along the rock face, offering an open public space facing the sea. Echoing the limestone rock, the concrete has traces of the small boards used for its formwork and the sunscreen is made of Niangon wood, a timber normally used for naval construction. Offering a wonderful belvedere, a roof terrace is open to the public, welcoming walkers on a previously unfrequented site.
