Carodeco is a firm based in South-Eastern France, specialized in producing and trading authentic concrete tiles. Carodeco has a real passion for this material, that “brings all of us back to our childhood”. Guillaume Plenet, managing director, answers three questions.

Could you present your firm and your latest projects?

Founded 21 years ago, the firm CARODECO is specialized in producing and trading authentic timeless cement tiles, inherited from the 19th Century. In our headquarters, located in the South-East of France, we stock 25 000 sq. metres of our material, which is distributed throughout France and abroad. Our products are used for both renovation and new construction projects, such as museums, castles, hotels, retail, restaurants, and so on.  Some of our latest realizations in France are the Resistance Memorial in Rivesaltes, the Royal Hotel in Evian, the restaurant Le Clair de la Plume in Grignan, the Jules Cesar Hotel in Arles…
It is very important to us to support architects, designers and decorators and to provide them with high quality products, in order to make their mission easier.

You are participating to Maison & Objet Projets this year, which are the products and/or the innovative solutions dedicated to architects that you’ll be presenting?

We are participating to Maison & Objet Projets once again this year, and we are willing to highlight the work of a young designer with whom we have been working for the last two years. We are showing some really original compositions of 80X80 and 80X120 cm carpets, decorated in modern patterns, which perfectly match with our cement tiles. Besides that, we are presenting the classical patterns of our tiles as well. We want to match a modern spirit with 19th Century tiles, by maintaining this material’s magnificent texture, colors and feel.
These compositions could be used to warm up a threshold, a kitchen, a retail space, a hotel…

According to you, what are the future changes of your activity area and major challenges to be addressed by 2020?

Nowadays the decoration field is heading back to safe and timeless values; clients want to be brought back to the origins of design, to the products having a story to tell.
That of the cement tiles is a niche market, still it’s a noble material that adds value to interior spaces and gives a real identity to places. One of the challenges that we have to face is the online market. In order to stay competitive, we offer our clients a wide offer, advice services, proximity…All of these are core values of CARODECO’s team. This year we have also moved our offices in a wider space, allowing us to welcome architects, decorators and designers and support them as much as possible in their projects.
