What to do this summer in the south of France? L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui’s advice is a stroll through Arles to see the city’s international photography festival, and a visit of the LUMA tower’s construction site, a building designed by Frank Gehry.

The 48th edition of the “Rencontres internationales de la photographie” in Arles will be held until September 24th with several exhibitions around Colombia and Latin America, highlight of the theme “Latina! “.

“Pulsions urbaines” offers a panorama of Latin American photography from 1960 to 2016, while the exhibition “La Vuelta” presents the work of 28 Colombian photographers and artists from different generations.

On the same theme, a retrospective highlights the work of the now famous Colombian photographer Paz Errázuriz ; and finally, “La vache et l’orchidée” will exhibit a collection of Colombian vernacular photographs articulated around these two national symbols.

The city of Arles not only presents the “Rencontres internationales de la photographie”, but will also soon be the welcoming ground of the LUMA tower, the flagship point of the future cultural complex of the city, built on the 10 hectares of the former SNCF workshops. This 56 meter high tower designed by architect Frank Gehry has been under construction since April 2014 and can already be visited free of charge, with a required registration.

The site visit can also be done virtually on the LUMA foundation’s website.
